What Made you decide flatwater was the sport you wanted to do?
The first time I did a sprint event was at the 2000 junior school nationals, I won all the events and loved the sport...

Preferred Racing Distance?
200m! I enjoy 500m, but not as much as the 200m as 200s take more natural tallent than any other sprint event...

Why do you enjoy canoeing so much?
I enjoy competing, canoeing lets me be free and allows me to relie on only myself.

What is the current situation with Canoe Kayak in South Africa?
Its growing extremly fast! We have a huge base of very fast juniors crossing over into seniors soon, so the rest of the world must watch out :)

Do you have any pre race ritual ..which brings you luck?
I rub the water of the course between my hands and smell it (Like on Gladiator)

What makes you different from other paddlers in South Africa?
I am very young compared to everyone else.

What equipment do you use?
Plastex Athena and Bracsa 4 blades

What does your typical day consist of?
I wake up at 7.30, I have my breakfast, the first traning session starts at 8.and It ends at about 11.00, then I go to University and do work/sleep. Then I have a to go to the next training session, which begins at 15.00. it ends about 5:30. After this I play Canoe polo, it helps with my starts, this ends at 8.. In the nite I spend my time with my girlfriend.

Do you have any other interests other than kayak?
Clubbing and Surfing.

What is you favourite distance (K1-2-4, 200, 500, 1000)?
200m K1, K2 and K4.

What are you studying?
I study at the University of Kwazulu Natal. I am doing Advertising, Marketing and Psychology.

How do you feel about your overall performance this year?
Winning the South African Sprint Champs in the 200m event was AWESOME, so im happy about the year.

What do you wish to improve upon for next year?
Need to increase fittness levels, put on more strength.

What do you feel is the most important part of your race?
Getting out ahead at the start, it psychologically sets you up for a win.
